Overview
In this part of the session, the participant will reflect on today's experiences and brainstorm strategies in regards to implementing the new North Carolina Social Studies Essential Standards in his/her district or school. In addition, the participant will be introduced to the focus of Day Two.

Objectives
The learning objectives associated with this part of the session are:
4. How to use data to meet the instructional needs of all students.
6. How to develop an implementation plan utilizing the strategies learned to facilitate local curriculum.
7. How to apply the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards in the Social Studies classroom.

Standard I - Teachers demonstrate leadership.
Standard V - Teachers reflect on their practice.

Learning Targets
After this part of the session, participants will be able to do the following statements:
  • I can review my action plan in regards to implementing the North Carolina Social Studies Essential Standards.
  • I can reflect on the experiences of Day One.
  • I can foreshadow about the experiences to come on Day Two.

I. Foreshadowing Day Two - What's To Come
On Day Two, we will use the experiences from today to:
  • Visualize how social studies instructional literacy can be incorporated into a Conceptual Unit and Unit Lesson Planner.
  • Continue developing your district or school action plan for Social Studies.

II. Action Planning
Re-visit your action plan. Using what you learned today, formulate your next steps of implementation for your district or school.

III. 3-2-1 Exit Ticket
Use the index card provided to answer the following prompts:
  • Write THREE content elements, strategies, or tools from today that you could take back to your district or school.
  • Write TWO suggestions for improvement concerning Day One of this Summer Institute.
  • Write ONE question you have from today concerning the material covered in the session.
